报告题目: Bridging the Gap Between SoftwareEngineering and Data Mining

   Today, data miners often apply or extenddata mining techniques to solve problems across many domains (e.g., socialmedia, health informatics, and software systems); while domain experts leveragetheir own domain knowledge to solve their own problems. Data miners often applytheir automated techniques to solve a wide range of problems across differentdomains with limited knowledge of the domain; while domain experts often havelimited knowledge of automated techniques when solving their domain-specificproblems.  

   My research tries to bridge the gap betweenboth types of experts (i.e., Data miners and Domain Experts). In this talk, Iwill focus on the software engineering domain and I will give an overview ofseveral challenges facing data miner and domain experts as they make use ofautomated techniques, in particular: (1) although we have many easy-to-use datamining tools, many domain experts have limited knowledge of these tools, whichoften causes research bias; (2) strong performance of techniques is notsufficient, instead a deeper understanding of the domain is essential; (3)results should be presented in a domain-centric context . I will presentexamples from my research to explain what these challenges are, why do theyappear, and my efforts to avoid them.

报告人简介：夏鑫，博士、澳大利亚蒙纳士大学讲师，主要研究方向包括软件工程、软件仓库挖掘和经验软件工程。于2009年和2014年分别获得浙大大学软件工程和计算机科学的学士和博士学位，之后一直在浙大计算机学院担任助理研究员至2017年。他于2016至2017年赴英属哥伦比亚大学（UBC）从事博士后阶段研究工作。从2018年2月起，夏鑫在蒙纳士大学担任讲师。迄今为止夏鑫发表了115篇论文，包括9篇IEEE Trans. on Software Engineering期刊论文、5篇ASE会议论文和3篇ICSE会议论文。部分论文获得国际会议奖项，其中 2篇论文获得ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Award（ASE2018 和ICPC 2018）。
